Ocean Vertical is an ethical adventure company based on the rugged East Lothian coastline. We specialise in paddle boarding, coasteering, surfing, SUP Yoga and mountaineering across Scotland.
We are currently recruiting for Freelance Associate Instructor roles to support our exciting summer 2022 season in East Lothian.

Job Description:
Based at Ocean Vertical HQ in Dunbar and across East Lothian, our freelance Associate Instructors expertly lead our summer adventures programme. We are looking for qualified instructors in the following disciplines: paddle boarding, coasteering, and surfing.
If you are an experienced, professional, and enthusiastic outdoor instructor, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with one of Scotland’s most progressive outdoor adventure companies.
The position is seasonal between May - September, with the opportunity to increase working hours in peak season. Freelance instructors will be on a competitive pay rate with plenty of opportunities for professional development during the season.
Successful applicants will go through a PVG check prior to their start date and full training and support in preparation for the summer season.
To be successful, applicants must:
Hold relevant Instructor Qualifications:
- Paddle boarding – ASI Level Two or equivalent
- Surfing – ASI Level One or equivalent
Have a minimum of two years Instructor experience
Be a strong swimmer and able to swim at least 200m in open water.
Have a valid 16 hours first aid certificate or equivalent
Hold a full UK driving license
Be a professional, competent, and experienced leader
It would be brilliant (but not essential) if applicants have:
Sports coaching experience
Outdoor education background
ASI paddle boarding qualifications
